HERE WE ARE ZINE

Inspired by Kemper Museum’s Atrium Project installation, Aquí Se Puede (Here You Can), and the themes found in Aliza Nisenbaum’s paintings, the Kemper Teen Arts Council and friends documented themes of community, culture, music, and individuality through original photography and poetry. This project began in December 2021 and ended in February 2022.

Building on last year’s zine project, Remember This Place, the Kemper Teen Arts Council came up with new prompts inspired by the exhibition and opened the call to teens in the community to join in and consider the following questions:

  • Who do you love? Where do you feel loved?

  • What community inspires you? What community do you feel connected to and why?

  • Who are you in your community that you are not elsewhere?

  • What makes you who you are?

  • What challenges has your community overcome?

This project serves to embody the time we are living in and the things we are thinking about. It reflects the vibrancy of our communities and the love that can be found within them. It celebrates the things that make us unique!
